Sore muscles always seem to creep up on me. Then when I realize it I really need R&R. These are three of my favorite things to do for my sore muscles.
1 – Take an Epsom Salt Bath
2 cups in a full tub of warm water is a great way to relax those tender muscles, and Epsom salts are available almost anywhere. Best of all it’s affordable
2 – Lavender Oil
I did an article a while ago about lavender oil and I still think it’s the best for relaxing and soothing sore/tight muscles. Works great to put it on before bed.
3 – Arnica Gel or Pellets
This works wonders and is also great if you’re bruised (just don’t put the gel on broken skin). It helps you recover faster.

Your mind may race with information, you may suffer from panic attacks, you might be struggling with a sense of unrest. With all of those and all the tips out their of how to calm down here are some of my tried and true favorites.
Let me reiterate that I am not a Doctor and you should read my wonderful disclaimer. Now that we’ve got all the sue happy people calmed down let me share what’s worked for me.
1.) Prayer (or meditation if you prefer)
I’m a Christian and prayer is something very important in my life. Taking time in a quiet space to pray about things going on in life or to pray scriptures is a wonderful stress buster.
I know there are two sides to this issue, those who want to do work outs each day and those who believe they only need to walk outside/garden for their exercise. I’m not knocking either view, but when you’re struggling with a feeling of unrest getting up and moving can be the best thing for you. Now what does that look like for you? To be honest I don’t know, you’ll have to get a feel for that yourself. In my case I do a light exercise routine (or try to) about 3-5 times a week.
3.) Get to sleep earlier.
I’ve been told that sleep before midnight counts as twice the amount of sleep after midnight, and whether or not you believe it’s true getting to sleep earlier will help you feel better. And being more rested generally means more calm.
and finally… 4.) Breathe right.
When you are nervous, scared, or shaky take a deep breath (in for 3) then release it in a long breath (out for 6). It’s important that you exhale longer than you inhale as in-for-3-out-for-6 will calm you and in-for-6-out-for-3 will rev you up.

It used to be popular to point at genetics for any extra fat around our waists, but it seems like that trend might be leaving in favor of calling fat… infectious.
Infectious? My sister wondered if these were the same scientists that got funding to study cow flatulence.
When I read this report I couldn’t believe I was reading this on a legitimate News site.
Apparently mice in a study were “engineered to have a particular immune deficiency developed fatty liver disease and got fatter when fed a Western-style diet”. I’m not surprised.
Here is where the article got interesting for a millisecond. When they put these mice in with healthy mice the healthy mice got the same problems. Now mice eat each others poop (yuck) and when they looked the reason all this trouble was happening in the first place was – you guessed it – gut flora.
In fact the “bad bacteria” in the sick mice increased (get this) 1,000 times!
Now that makes sense. It isn’tÂ fat that’s catching it’s bad gut flora that’s catching. Through food, environment, and what was passed down to us by our parents.
Wait, doesn’t this sound like Gut and Psychology Syndrome? Yeah, I thought so too. Once again research is catching up with common sense.

Psychiatric doctors are looking into changing the criteria for autism. It won’t cure anything. What it means is people are going to get pushed under the carpet until they get bad enough to fit the new criteria.
Personally, I think it’s just playing with numbers so it looks better, and I think most people who struggle with autism (or their loved ones) would prefer a real cure – rather then downplaying their struggles and problems.
Dr. Carolyn Dean had an interesting post on this and I agree with most of her recommendations for treating autism, but personally I think it needs to be taken a step further – into GAPS. If one group of people should go on GAPS it should definitely be those in the Autistic Spectrum.

My sister shared a fun article with us about Granny from the Beverly Hillbillies. You know, that wonderfully cantankerous lady who steals the whole show and spouts “hill country” wisdom.
At, The Way Grandma Does It, Lisa had a great post on why Granny is actually right. Several things they made her seem backward is actually the truth. Lisa also linked to an episode about Granny’s garden, and (you have to watch to the end)… the blatant brainwashing about the supermarket. Yikes. It makes my hair curl, and that’s quite a feat.
And that post went right along with a video my family and I recently watched. It was excellent. It’s called Back to Eden. It’s all about making gardening easier. Watch and be amazed.
